Now, Romany Gilmour: Focused, Authoritative, Mesmerizing!

When Romany Gilmour performed "Between Two Points" on BBC's Later... with Jools Holland, she was singing a song her father had only recently discovered—a 1999 composition by The Montgolfier Brothers that David Gilmour had loved for years but realized didn't suit his voice. So he asked his daughter. She arrived mid-essay, barely knowing the tune, and in one take, she found it.

The performance, filmed at London's historic Alexandra Palace (where Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd performed at the legendary 14-Hour Technicolour Dream in 1967), draws its power from restraint and emotional precision. Director Gavin Elder noted in the music video that Romany performs with "an extraordinary level of fragility, vulnerability and understated control," capturing "a subtle, yet deep emotional rapport between David and Romany." That rapport is visible here, not as hierarchy, but as genuine collaboration between two musicians who understand each other's intentions.

These are musicians David Gilmour has chosen because, as he noted in 2024, he wanted people "who are genuinely creative and give them a little more space"—a philosophy that extends to his daughter's role in the arrangement. Romany isn't ornamental; her harp and voice are structural elements, as essential to the song's architecture as any instrument on stage.

The performance stands as evidence of something larger: that Romany Gilmour has moved beyond the question of "David Gilmour's daughter" and into the territory of "Romany Gilmour, artist."

However, the BBC was not the end of Romany's story; it marked the start of it. IIn the autumn of 2024, whilst performing on her father's Luck and Strange tour, she formed a creative relationship with three other musicians: Louise Marshall, the highly regarded vocalist in Jools Holland's Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, and the sisters Hattie and Charley Webb, who are known for their work with Leonard Cohen and Tom Petty. By the time the tour had finished, a clear vision had developed among them—one that needed its own dedicated space. In July 2025 the Marshall, Gilmour and Webbs made their debut at Piano Smithfield in the Barbican in London, a four-night residency which sold out so swiftly that further dates were added. There, they performed original songs that had been written jointly in Louise's living room, together with versions of songs by The Roches, Dolly Parton, Billy Joel and Minnie Riperton. With Romany acting as an equal creative force—not as a guest, not as a daughter, but as a bandleader—she announced an important point: that she had already gone beyond appearing in her father's music; she was now building her own.
